A Note About This Blog

I have written this blog in order- from the creation of the show up to now- but it posts in reverse. So- to fully appreciate the "work," start from the first post- "The Birth Of Lovelace"- and then move forward. Or you can do it "Memento" style if you wish.

"'Family Ties' Cutie Does Porn!"

One of the statements that I make WAY too often even for my own taste is "I know them from bingo." Name any celebrity in film, on television, commercials, reality shows, game show hosts, and so on and I will tell you that "I know them from bingo." If you don't know what bingo has to do with this project, just click on the Legendary Bingo link to the right and go to the website. Then you'll find out the truth- that I am (not so) secretly Bingo-boy.

But I digress. I know Tina Yothers from bingo. I met her when she came to be a "Celebrity Guest Ballcaller" and we became friends. She is an amazing singer and had her own band, Jaded, for a few years. I had gone to hear the band many times at The Key Club on Sunset Blvd. and really loved their music and Tina as a performer.
As I was in the early stages of writing "Lovelace" Tina kept appearing in my mind. I fought the urge to call her for quite some time figuring that she would be offended if I asked her to portray a porn star in a musical. But then I figured "what's the worst that could happen?" She couldn't spit on me over the phone, right? Long story short, Tina took a few days to mull it over and said yes.

The implications of the little girl on "Family Ties" playing Linda Lovelace were not lost on Tina or myself. This was no purposeful "I am trying to change my image" on her part. She simply took the role because, as she told me- "I trust that you would not do anything to hurt or embarrass me" and also that she loved the story and the music.

With Tina on board we immediately brought her in to the studio and recorded her singing "Hide My Soul" and "Strange Life" which was, for some time, the closing number of the show which had Linda reflecting on her life and sending her off into an uncertain future.
(more to come)
